I am so delighted to announce that the World Premiere of Get The Bunk Out will be at Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center in Sarasota, Florida on August 19 at 8pm. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as a fun way to help get out the vote (primaries are on August 23) and to kick off my 74 day motorcycle tour across the country and back, which starts on August 28.
Get The Bunk Out is based on the writings of Will Rogers, who was the biggest celebrity in America a hundred years ago. I was cast to play him in the Players’ production of The Will Rogers Follies five years ago on my birthday. Because he published over 2 million words in his career, not all of it ended up in that show, so I used a lot of the other stuff I liked to produce my fourth one man show, Will Rogers Revived, which won the Humorist Award at the 2018 Sarasolo Festival. To bring some perspective to our current political situation, I recrafted the script, added some original poetry and songs, and now I’m ready to tour with Get The Bunk Out. Watch the video below!
I have a long history with Fogartyville and WSLR, and it’s such an honor to have this event there. Years ago, I hosted a talk show that started as “Oikonomia” and became “Renaissance SRQ”, the “SRQ” standing for Sustainability, Resilience, and Quality of Life. If you’re into those sorts of things, you can listen to episodes here. I also performed in the production of Project Unspeakable about the assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK, and Malcolm X, and I’ve participated and volunteered at a number of events and concerts there. So it’s a thrill to be back and holding this particular event at Fogartyville.
My tour will take me through 24 states with 35 planned stops, including visits to Will’s statue in Washington DC and memorials to him in Illinois, Colorado, California, Texas, and Oklahoma. My intention is to produce a documentary about the journey and the conversations I have with people about fixing our political system along the way. You can watch a video about the tour below.
