Celebrate Will Rogers’ 140th Birthday at Elixir

To celebrate the 140th Birthday of Will Rogers, I will be presenting a special, hour-long performance of my award-winning, one-man show Will Rogers Revived at the Elixir Tea House on November 4 at 7pm.

I first played the role of Will Rogers in the Players’ production of The Will Rogers Follies in 2017. Reviewer Marty Fugate of The Observer stated that, “McAllister has enough of his own charisma to carry the whole show,” which prompted me to further develop a monologue based on more of what Rogers had to say. Premiered at the 2018 Sarasolo Festival where it won the Humorist Award, Will Rogers Revived is drawn directly from the writings and legacy of Will Rogers, offering an opportunity to laugh at America’s political system with a hopeful message of kindness and understanding from the words of one of America’s greatest humorists.

Especially with all of today’s political fervor, I think it’s important to remember how Will joked about the things we take so seriously now. I wish every American could see this show.

Will Rogers was no stranger to Sarasota. He first performed at Edwards Theatre (what is now the Sarasota Opera House) in 1927. He is said to have criticized the accuracy of the portrait of John Ringling at the Ca d’ Zan, joking it was the only time Ringling ever had his hands in his own pockets.

McAllister will perform Will Rogers Revived at the Elixir Tea House, 1926 Hillview Street, on Monday, November 4 at 7pm, followed by the regularly schedule open mic poetry. McAllister can also be hired to repeat the performance for private events and living room performances, as well as his interactive musical show The Cowboy Cabaret.
