Now that my latest show has come to a close, this seemed to be an appropriate groove to share today. There is a bit of hollowness in my heart, knowing that I won’t be playing some of the roles I’ve inhabited over the last few months. Yet I am comforted and excited about the new roles to be revealed in the coming months.
“The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.” – Joseph Campbell
One of the most beautiful things about nature is its constancy in spite of its changes. Flowers bloom and fade and bloom again. Water evaporates, rains, and continues to flow. Trees sprout, shed their leaves, and blossom again. From every instance of decay, nature offers new life. Yet the life is not really new, it has just emerged in a different form. This is nature’s progress.
In our personal lives and in our collective societies, the tides of change bring about an endless stream of destruction and creation. Relationships come and go. Technologies rise and fall. Abundance ebbs and flows. Systems are created and dismantled. Throughout all of the changes that greet us, life goes on.
Happiness is found when we understand ourselves as part of that natural flow of destruction and creation, when we can let go of the old and embrace the new for its season. Let us realize the constancy of our being despite the changes around us and go with the flow of the revolution.
