When I was a kid, Grease was one of my favorite films. I’ve not been a huge fan of musicals since, but Grease and West Side Story were two that I loved from the first time I saw them. Now, that could have been due to the fact that they allowed me to spend time with Olivia Newton-John and Natalie Wood, respectively, but the music has stuck with me as well.
It may be awhile until I add “Gee Officer Krupke” to my repertoire, but I have heard a few variations on “You’re The One That I Want,” and people seem to enjoy my rendition of it. Here is the introductory poem, followed by my version and the original. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Sometimes we meet a person whose got everything we need
While they make us feel the healin’ they also make our hearts bleed
You feel like you go together and nothing could be wrong
Singing Rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong
And your shoo bop sha wadda wadda yip pity boom de boom
Gots your dip da dip doo wop doo da da doo bee doo
you feel like you’ve finally made it all the way to the top
Shaking up your chang Chang changity chang sha bop
your heart feels like a shaken can of cherry soda pop
Makes you boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy shooby doo wop she bop
You feel like you’d be happy to finally jump the broom
Singing Sha na na na na na na yippity dip de doom
When you find that special someone and it makes you feel all hot
Those times you just gotta say it, baby, you’re the one that I want
