For the last century or so, our society has been guided largely by those who long for power and will do whatever is necessary to attain and hold tightly to it. This movement has culminated in our current situation of endless wars, environmental devastation, climate change, and corporate dominance. However, the tide is shifting.
Although the effects of the Industrial Revolution are still in effect, the Information Revolution has opened up avenues of discourse which are allowing us to see the effects of our actions, connect with like minds, and realize the extent of our own personal power. This development, this advance in communication, gives us the amazing opportunity to steer our community’s conversation in directions we want to go instead of simply following the monologue dictated by those who have wielded power over us.
Social media does bring its share of challenges, but the gift of social media offers us the ability to celebrate every facet of the world we love with those who would celebrate with us. It gives us new opportunities to explore better methods for directing our society than those currently in play. It gives us the power to re-create our world one thought at a time. May we realize the potential for the tools we are given and power them with love.
