“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” – Mother Teresa
Although we often forget the fact based on the distinctions and separations we create, we are truly all in this thing called life together. We may be of different colors, creeds, religions, or nationalities, but all of those variables still come together to form one humanity. It is this humanity, and indeed the life that works beyond it in the animals, plants, and even the smallest bacteria that set this ball of spinning dirt apart from all of the others in our solar system. In this we are all One.
We have created fabulous ways to help us forget this truth, but we are creating even more ways to bring us back to it. More and more, we are realizing that we are all connected. In our day to day routines, as we touch different points on this web of life, the entirety of the web shimmers with the effects of our actions, be they of love, anger, joy, or fear. Everything that we do to each other, we do to us all.
This may seem to be a daunting realization, to have so much power in our every interaction with the world. Yet if we can find the courage and compassion to see the world around us as simply an extension of ourselves, we may just be able to realize what true power is.
