I have been imagining a crowdfunding campaign for a while, and since I have called myself a renaissance man for so long, I wanted to make sure that my intentions were clear and my goals were achievable before I launched it. The lockdown has given me considerable opportunity to consider how to move forward, and I am planning to launch my Patreon campaign this Sunday, June 21. Please watch my 2-minute video and consider a monthly pledge of patronage to help empower my endeavors.
Although I am gifted in a number of talents, this year, I determined that my highest gift is as a songwriter. The first reason is because I’m pretty prolific at it, but also for the medium’s ability to reach the grandest audience and to be used as an experiment in what I call ABC2 Economics. Because, beyond wanting to merely be an artist that creates a single, or a collection of, artistic work, I want to fully invest in the art of my life. And it has been my near lifelong compulsion to produce and distribute my work in a better way than the imbalanced and antiquated methodologies currently in use.
Nearly a decade ago, I challenged myself to live for a year without the use of money, a time I used as a bit of a reset for the life I was creating and the way in which I was creating it. Feeling the need to further release myself from notions that I don’t believe are working very well for me or the world anymore, in 2012, I went through the U.S. Declaration of Independence paragraph by paragraph, and since it seemed as if Thomas Jefferson had been writing about the current U.S. government instead of King George, I wrote my own Declaration of Independence, declaring my personal sovereignty as the Autonomous Nation of Stevetopia. Obviously, it is a bit of a challenge to declare your sovereignty from an organization that has theoretical control over the land on which you were born and on which you intend to stay, so I am developing my borders and boundaries as I go.
But more important than my borders or boundaries is the Stevetopian economic system, ABC2 Economics. The basic idea is that every person is comprised of a heart, a mind, a body, and a spirit, similarly to how nature is comprised of water, air, earth, and fire, and so I participate in the world by living out those essences through my artistry, business, citizenry, and community. As such, all economic development is designed to be channeled toward its required purpose in creating a well-balanced, prosperous, and resilient society of vibrance, innovation, sustainability, and stewardship.
Stevetopia’s most valuable exports are songs, so that is where the campaign for its sovereignty begins. For those inclined to support the continued development of the Autonomous Nation of Stevetopia, there are a variety of tiers that offer various benefits and participation in roles like a Song Supporter at only 1$ a month, a World Changer at 21$ a month, a Goodwill Ambassador at 88$ a month, or a Trail Blazer at 444$ a month.
Although songs are the predominant export of Stevetopia, continued economic development will also allow for the artistic expansion into video and podcast production, book publication, theatrical performances, and interactive installations like The Labyrinth of the Unbroken Path.
If you would like to participate in the establishment of the Autonomous Nation of Stevetopia and hear some great songs, please sign up for our newsletter at www.stevemc.xyz or send an email to inkensoul@gmail.com.
Additionally, my latest recording, “Song For The People” will be released through all streaming services on my birthday, August 4. Please look for it wherever you find music and give it a listen. Thank you.
I’ve always been in your court.
Your actions almost speak louder than your words.
Thank you so much, Martha!
I’m in your corner, Steve. Peace and love.
Thank you, Bill.
